Back to Blogging – Fantasy Football

Posted by amandamiller on Aug 24, 2010 in Uncategorized |

Almost two weeks? Where has the time gone?? While it isn’t close to being the same, I feel like this new job is my ‘baby’ so I’m acclimating to continue my old life (blogging) and my new life (working full-time). So I’ll extend my apologies again for being a little lax with this… but know that I continue to be committed to keeping this updated more regularly.

Sports
FANTASY FOOTBALL! I’m in two leagues this year, both of them all-women’s leagues. My first draft was this past Sunday. I was gutted that I couldn’t do the draft myself due to prior commitments but my brother-in-law drafted for me and did a great job keeping me in the loop. I’m excited to have Peyton Manning, Randy Moss (in a contract year), and  the Ravens defense. Should be an interesting year and I still have one draft to go. In other news, I got my CJ Spiller jersey in the mail yesterday. Can football just start already??

Oh, Jay Mariotti. I read a great article by Dan LeBetard for TheBigLead.com about the reaction to Mariotti’s arrest on domestic violence charges. While many people took issue with Mariotti’s harsh (and sometimes unfounded) crticism of sports figures in the past, I’m in agreement with LeBetard about how disturbing it was at the satisfaction some people got out of Mariotti’s fall from grace. While the ramifications for his career are not yet clear, it was a great case study for how quickly the tables can turn. Instead of doling out criticism, he’ll now spend the next weeks, months, maybe years defending himself. Regardless of whether the charges turn out to be true, it is sad to see the number of people that are rejoicing in his short-comings. Have we really gone this far to wish misery on another human being?

Life
I live a blessed life. I’ve had opportunities to live all over the country, met amazing people, had fun jobs, all while having the love and support of great family and friends. Lately, however, I’ve felt luckier and more content than I ever have in my 35 years. Having a wonderful person to share life’s experiences has meant more to me than I ever thought I would. Little everyday events have more meaning and are more enjoyable because I have Jess to share them with.

Other
I’m working from home today. As much as I love my office (even though there is a serious lack of art on the walls), it is nice to have a little change of pace. I’ll enjoy doing some research and strategic planning from my couch instead of my desk chair. Also, I’m working on a little surprise for Jess, so I’ll be able to do some of that while I’m on my lunch hour.

Well, not the most exciting post, but at least I’m back at it, right?!
